SHANGAAN GIRL - 15 in Edition
The evenings in primitive Africa are special moments in the African daily round. I can hear mothers calling out to children, dogs barking and the lowing of cattle and the bleating of goats mixed with the tinkling of cow bells punctuated by the whistling of the herders. As the night descends these sounds are gradually replaced by those of the twilight; an owl, a jackal over here, a hyena over there begins his nightly prowling with an eerie call. This sculpture is a depiction of a young woman of the Shangaan tribe in Western Zimbabwe in the early days. She is wandering off to the well to collect the evening supply of water.
